News and Happenings at Circle Center

January 2023

Thank You Message from CEO

Last year was quite a year. We saw RVA and Circle Center enter into a "new normal" and settle into life somewhat post-COVID. And all the while, the sun shone brightly on Circle Center!

Our staff, wonderful participants, and their care partners showed great flexibility, adaptability, and optimism.

And you our supporters, showed tremendous generosity. Your giving to the Center has been strong, despite the economic issues we all face. Your support means you helped "bridge the gap" in program costs, where Medicaid leaves off for many participants. Your gifts provided a much-needed commercial refrigerator. You also donated many in-kind gifts including puzzles, books, hygiene items all of which put smiles on our participants' faces.

We are so optimistic about 2023, thanks to you. Here's to even more joy-filled days for the individuals we serve!

Gratefully,

Heather Turbyne-Pollard

New Year, New Program Enhancements

This new year means new opportunities for participants at Circle Center:

The Wellness Room

Our Wellness Room re-opens this month! This is a space where smaller groups of participants can get active! They'll drum and participate in exercise and mobility programs designed in partnership with Powerback Rehabilitation.

Here's a sneak peek of the room, so far:

Participants on the Move!

Social distancing has had participants scattered across three rooms. Beginning this month, they began, once again, moving between rooms to visit with more friends and engage in more activities. They continue to maintain 6' social distancing during their catch ups and visits, but are having a ball seeing more and more of each other throughout the day!

YOU make this possible - thank you!

"Circle Center holds a special place in our hearts. Their doors opened for us during a critical care juncture for our loved one, Susie. Circle Center is where Susie got her second breath—forming new friendships, enjoying arts and crafts, playing games, and feeling a sense of belonging that dementia began to erode. She smiled, laughed, learned, inspired, and lit up at Circle Center. We must confess that the impact was infectious—it changed how we cared and filled up too. We will forever be grateful ."  -- Tori, Caregiver

Prior to that, she served as consortium manager for the Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts where she managed development work for seven nonprofit theatre and arts organizations across the nation. She is Circle Center's first full-time Director of Development and we are thrilled to have her here!

In her spare time, DarrylLee enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Tom, her cats, reading, and enjoying all that Richmond has to offer.

Powerback Powers Through

Onsite partner, Powerback Rehabilitation, has enhanced our service offerings and made it much easier for participants who need physical, occupational, and/or speech therapy to get it while at Circle Center!

Beth, Kristin, and Brittany--who we call the Powerback Dream Team--have partnered with 45 participants for 2,169 hours of therapy since November 2021!

We, our participants, and their caregivers are so glad to have them onsite!
